Street art now long gone. I took many photos of protest art on the streets of Oaxaca in the two years after the rebellion in Oaxaca in 2006. Young Oaxacan artists are passionate and often express themselves on walls and buildings, to our great benefit. The art is ephemeral. Some remains for many years, fading in the hot sun. Other times it is painted over, and a new artist creates a new mural or symbol of resistance.
I am a multi-media artist and craftswoman. My training includes coursework in sculpture at the Corcoran School in Washington, DC and at the Rufino Tamayo Taller in Oaxaca, Mexico, where I lived for 14 years until 2021. I've worked extensively in many genres including paper and digital collage, acrylic and oil painting, needle felting, paper mache, colored pencil, watercolor and line drawing. My experience in the active artistic community of Oaxaca was richly rewarding.
