GRASS OWL — Vintage illustration, from John Gould’s BIRDS OF ASIA published in 1850. Only birdwatchers and ornithologists know if this bird still exists. This is ornithology before the camera.
Two owls are depicted, one adult and one juvenile, standing on the ground amid grass. The adult owl has distinctive white facial feathers with dark rims, while the younger owl appears more downy and less fully developed.
