IIn the books of my childhood, I was an avid fan of the various marbleized endpapers that, while they had a practical protective function, were a kind of bonus aesthetic experience. The smell of old books, the quality of the paper and illustrations, the jagged way the pages were cut, all of it was part of the life changing experience of becoming an avid reader.
The process of creating these endpapers was, in fact, rather onerous and toxic, but one can appreciate how excited the practitioners were at the results. Today, we marbleize with gel printing, and get the same thrill! It's much easier, sometimes spectacular, but it's hard to top the quality we see in these old endpapers.

I am a multi-media artist and craftswoman. My training includes coursework in sculpture at the Corcoran School in Washington, DC and at the Rufino Tamayo Taller in Oaxaca, Mexico, where I lived for 14 years until 2021. I've worked extensively in many genres including paper and digital collage, acrylic and oil painting, needle felting, paper mache, colored pencil, watercolor and line drawing.
