Description
Every town and city in Mexico is sprinkled liberally with metal benches, sometimes with with commemorative designs. I became fond of photographing them. This one was special, bright red and well used, even though it was placed here relatively recently. In the background is the legendary Lake Catemaco, second biggest lake in Mexico. This specific area around the shores of the lake and in the Tuxtla mountain ranges seen nearby, was the cradle of the mysterious Olmec culture. Several of the giant heads stone heads on exhibit in the capital of Veracruz State, Jalapa (or Xalapa) were found hereabouts. I lived 10 minutes away from the Lake for a few months. It was my first experience living in and exploring jungle land, a bit of a challenge to my worst fears (giant spiders, scorpions and hordes of biting fire ants). But it was one of my most rewarding experiences.
